Congratulations to all FDSA’s Division I teams on their performance at the Soccer NB Provincial Championships this past weekend!
U12 Boys Capitols: The Harvey Studios U12 Boys FDSA Capitols placed 4th in the provincials this past weekend in Sussex. After regular play they were ranked 1st in their division. They went on to lose the semi-final match 1-0 to Restigouche, and the bronze medal game 2-1 to Kent South. For the entire tournament, they allowed 5 goals and scored 5 goals.
U12 Girls Galleons: The MacTavish’s U12 FDSA Galleons placed 3rd in their respective provincials.
Game # 1 vs Fundy. A very tough team and with about 7 minutes left in the game, they scored, final score = 1-0 for Fundy. For the Galleons, this was a victory (keeping Fundy to only 1 goal).
Game # 2 vs Western Valley. We have good battles with WV, but they brought their “A” game and “A” team, we scored early, and were able to keep them off the board. A great defensive battle by both teams and a great/must win for the Galleons.
Semi-final game vs Chaleur. FDSA kept Chaleur to one shot “on-net” and had about 5 shots on net, with one shot hitting the post, but the Chaleur keeper made some great saves. After regulation, score = 0-0. In the first half of OT, Chaleur scored first with a brilliant shot. During the second half of OT, Galleons replied with a goal, via a penalty shot (due to a blatant hand ball in the box by Chaleur). End of OT 1-1. The game went to penalty kicks to determine the winner, with the very good skill of the Chaleur Keeper, the Galleons were trying to “place” every shot in corner, unfortunately for the Galleons, we were missing “wide” on each one. Chaleur advanced after 4 shots, making 2/3, FDSA missed their first 3, made 3/4 and were done.
In the bronze medal game, Galleons picked up from where they left off, scoring in the first by Livvy Dewar, then Riverview scored in the second, and then FDSA scored later in the second with a beauty throw-in, off of the head of Livvy Dewar and into their net. Game finished 2-1 for FDSA and a bronze medal.
U14 Boys Athletics: This weekend the FDSA Harvey Studios U14 Div 1 Boys team started the round robin play on Saturday morning, by defeating the team from Fundy 9-1, Adam Lynch leading the way with 4 goals. The second game of the day was against the very familiar Western Valley team ending in a 1 – 1 draw. This put the Athletics in 1st place in their division and setup a crossover with Kent South.
On Sunday morning, the Athletics defeated the team from Kent South 2 – 0, Jacob Savoie was the keeper with the shutout. On to the provincial finals against a familiar foe in Restigouche…who defeated the Athletics in the finals of the Codiac First Touch tournament in July.
The championship game was a close affair, with the Athletics opening the scoring in the first half with a goal by William Hood and then holding on for a 1-0 win in regulation time…solid goaltending by Jacob Savoie throughout the tournament.
